Blogging from my S3

Hello! This is my first post of 2013 and it's using my mobile phone S3 ! I had a lot of first times this year...braces,  wisdom tooth extraction,  getting cold sores and learning something new (shall not disclose it yet).
Today is the 2nd day after my wisdom tooth extraction at Mount Elizabeth Novena Specialist centre... Dr Wee Tze Haur from The Oral Maxillofacial Practice extracted my upper right 3rd molar and did a surgery on the bottom right 3rd premolar.
They really have an operating theatre and they covered me up including my eyes during the procedure. I did local anaesthesia and Dr Wee injected 4 shots of anaesthesia into my right and gums! That was really not a very pleasant experience. I give the pain a 6 out of 10. The rest of the procedure was basically drilling and tugging and stitching after that.
Dr Wee is a really gentle and friendly dentist. After the procedure, Dr Wee asked if I wanted to keep the teeth and give my Fiance. Now I immediately question in my heart... how in the world did He know I am engaged???  But I didn't have the mouth to talk and Just mumbled thank you and Went out to collect my Medication n MC... maybe I will ask him when I go back for review next week ╮(╯_╰)╭
My sis had accompanied me to the clinic and before that we went to try the Baskin Robbins ice cream I have been wanting to try for a long time!  There was this promotion of $6.50 for 8 flavours But the scoops are really peanuts. Nevertheless, I wanted to try the flavours So I bought it. Oh and they ran out of waffle biscuit that were supposed to come with it. I loved the cotton candy flavour,  such a pretty purple and pink color and really tasted like Cotton Candy!!!!  The almond pistachio was great too.
After that we went to look for a wallet for my sister at Samantha Vega and Samantha Thavasa at both Wisma Atria and Ion. I sponsored her 2/3 of the of the wallet as a early birthday present... In the end she chose this champagne colour wallet from Samantha Vega which was a new arrival. We both really like this wallet!  But I still love my very own Samantha Thavasa blue long wallet from Baby ..
Back to my wisdom tooth... I'm having a swollen right face now but it isn't as bad as I expected. I wonder if there are any wisdom teeth left in my lower jaw because Dr Wee mentioned He may leave some inside If it is too near the nerves. Got stiff jaw and some aching still... Hope it gets well really soon!

Hair Cut! & Tips for Pear Shaped Face

I had my locks snipped away again recently... I cut my hair short before going to Melbourne last year in February and I did it again.

\

Reasons for cutting my hair:
  1.  Humid and hot weather in Singapore.
  2.  Losing hair due to ??? ( lack of nutrients?)
  3. Cumbersome to tie up my hair at work ( which leads to point 4)
  4. Insufficient time to blowdry my hair until completely dry therefore causing me to tie my hair even when it is damp.
  5. Wanted to have a fresh look.

To digress, my favourite past time is to Google  whatever stuff that I want to know. Internet and search engines are one of the most useful inventions ever! So before deciding on the type of hair cut I want to cut, I had to find out what face shape I was in order to determine what kind of haircut would suit my face.

And so I found a few helpful internet pages..... For example:

and

But I was still confused with all the rules defining what face shape I was. And anyway I did loads of Googling and found out I'm the triangle face shape or also known as the pear face shape. Diamond face shape is the inverted triangle whereby the cheekbone and/or forehead is wide and the jawline is small, which is the exact opposite of the pear shape face which has a wide jawline and narrow forehead/cheekbone. Obviously, a Diamond Shape face would be prettier than a Pear Shape face right?! And so, I'm am quite sad when I found out my face shape, which was a myth to me after so many years of living. T_T """

So I further research (Google~) on what hairstyles should pear shaped face people cut. From all the websites I read and gathered information, pear shaped faces are most suited to cut layer hairstyles, with volume at the top, as stated by this webpage -
The objective of a great pear-shaped face hair cut is to create width at the temples and forehead and an illusion of sleekness along the jaw line and cheeks - essentially, a look of symmetry on the top and bottom is what you're after. The right cut will also suggest the illusion of an oval face shape. "

Not many celebrities that I know of have pear shape faces and the prettiest one that I managed to find was Eva Mendes. (check out this website: http://www.mostchic.com/419/hair/which-hairstyles-suit-a-triangular-faced-shape )

But I'm not Caucasian and I don't have those sharp and prominent feature nor attractive big eyes. Luckily I'm not living in Korea nor am I rich nor vain enough to be considering Korean plastic surgery to shave away my wide and prominent jaw!

I'm getting a bit extreme here ain't I.

Anyways to be Happy is to be Content. So I have to be content with what I am given and I just have to figure a way out to enhance my features even if with less than perfect ones. :)

So I researched further to find out the various aspects of enhancing a pear shaped face. My personal summary of what I understand from all the information I've read.

Tips for Pear Shaped Face/Triangle Face

  • Make up should be focused on enhancing eyes distracting the attention away from the jawline. Preferably not to wear strong coloured lipsticks which will only bring focus to the jaws.
  • Contouring around the jawline will be a very good technique to minimize the wide jaw look.
  • Layered haircut giving fullness at the top of the head would give a balanced and more symmetrical look to the face. Remember the aim is always to create a wide forehead to balance out the wide jawline.
  • Try to avoid haircut that ends longer than the neckline which accentuates the wide jawline.
  • The same logic goes for choosing the suitable sunglasses for Pear Shaped Faces. Go for Top heavy, bottom light designs, such as Aviators which are wider at the top but narrower at the bottom.
  • Avoid wearing high necklines that would emphasize your jawline, including wearing chocker necklaces.

Some useful sites on pear shaped faces:

As much as I would love to have a oval shape face which is deemed the perfect face shape, I shall have to embrace what I have and try to make the best out of it!

    Till next post!

Short Update!

So.. it has been 3 months since the last blog post in dearfairygodmother land... What have I been doing?
Life is pretty much back to normal in this Tiny Sunny Island (Singapore) since I returned from the land of Kangaroos and Koalas (Australia) ^_^. How time flies it has been half a year already! I've been back to work in the same company that I have been working in since end of 2007. From celebrating my 21st year old in the company until now... you all can roughly guess how YOUNG I am now :/

It was just like a dream, going abroad to study for 9 months and coming back becoming a degree holder. In my line of work, owning a piece of paper or not (certificate) determines the salary, affects the entitlement of various benefits such as days of annual leave, shift allowances. So naturally diploma holders would want to upgrade themselves to get a degree in the end. I believe this goes the same for many other fields of work. But what was frustrating was that there wasn't really a good (and fast) degree programme for Laboratory Medicine (which was what I studied in polytechnic). Luckily a colleague recommended (ex-colleague now) a programme in which his girlfriend (now his wife) in Australia studied. The Laboratory Medicine programme in RMIT, located in Melbourne.

So long story short, I'm very happy with my results and I am looking forward to my graduation ceremony in Singapore in September! There is a tiny hint of regret that I was not able to stay and participate in the major graduation ceremony last year 2011 in Melbourne, as I wanted to come back and work asap to earn money to repay my debts and I couldn't afford to fly my family over to participate in the ceremony. Oh well look at the video below!

As I grow older, this blog also grows with me. The title "DearFairyGodMother" implies that I started this blog to pen down my worldly desires. From being a Japanese "Gyaru" style fan in name (not necessary in style), a Michelle Phan fan, a spendthrift, a makeup junkie, after coming back from Melbourne to Singapore, some incidents led me to grow up and change my mind of what I really want in life. Mainly, health and financial issues. Last time my daily essential reads were makeup related blogs like "Rouge Deluxe" and some others . Now I only these sites once in a blue moon because there was no point reading them when I do not have the ability to buy those stuff. I'm more into motivational and health sites and there is one particular Singaporean blogger I recommend to read which is Fay Hokulani 's site. I am also now trying to build up my financial intelligence which is zero by reading books and websites.

I think there is a big change in me, from being ignorant dreamy girl who now wants to be a person who has specific goals and dreams which I believe that can be achieved. I hope the contents that I update here from now onwards would be more useful to people who stumble onto my humble site. :)

So here marks the end of my short update in DearFairyGodmother...
I'll be back!

P.S. Watched The Avengers with him yesterday and I liked it! Although I didn't watch Thor or Captain America before that... :) Shall catch them up when I have time!

Sally Hansen Nail Stickers

Spotted this at the Priceline store in Melbourne city in September earlier on, any idea does Singapore's Sally Hansen shelves have this too?

In the end bought myself this:

Pretty expensive stuff, considering that it is for one time use only. Cost me $15 AUD. But I couldn't resist buying it, as I have never bought one of these before and the design looked so interesting. This was the halloween edition design. I wonder does Singapore sells it too? I'll find out for myself when I'm back to Singapore in 2 weeks time! :D

Say Bye Bye to Flabby Arms - Video

FG美人教室/ 甩肉不求人!Linda5招瘦手臂

『掰掰肉』一直困擾著許多美眉們,
只要一不留神,手臂肥肉就開始放肆的生長,
Lidna

Kago Ai hospitalised after suicide attempt :(

" TOKYO: Ai Kago, a former member of the Japanese girl group Morning Musume, was hospitalized after attempting to take her own life on Sunday and is now out of danger, reported Japanese media. "

Kago Ai, also known as Aibo, is one of my favourite Jpop artiste after I got to know about Morning Musume and WShe was involved in a underage smoking scandal and also being involved with a older guy who was 37 yrs in 2006 and subsequently she was totally out of the Hello-Project. She is one year younger than me. I really love her when she was younger, she is totally the most kawaii artiste personality I ever seen.
After the scandal she has grown up and change into a more mature lady but it seems like her life is not smooth sailing. She did 2 photobooks if I'm not wrong and are both semi-nude, which I don't like because it kinds of destroys the pure and adorable image I have of her. But I guess maybe this is kind of a way for her to show that she is grown up and no longer the cute Aibon in Morning Musume. Still I think she is talented and beautiful and I hope she will treasure her life and what she have.

W (ダブルユー) or Double U (Kago Ai aka Aibon and Nozomi Tsuji aka Nono)

Picture from

Many of you may not know Kago Ai (left in the picture), who used to be from the 4th generation of Morning Musume girls group. She and Nozomi Tsuji formed a duo group named W aka Double U after they graduated from Morning Musume. It's a bit confusing... Morning Musume has a few subgroups created by the producer Tsunku =, Kago Ai was in Tanpopo and Mini Moni group too when she was in Morning Musume. The detailed information can be found in Wikipedia. I love Kago Ai and W especially, I think Nono and Ai chan is really a formidable, super duper talented and cute together. And it is known that the 2 girls are like sisters and really have 'Mo Qi' or in English - Tacit Understanding or good rapport with each other. When I was in secondary school I got introduced to Morning Musume's songs,  which the very 1st song I heard was the 'Love Machine'

This was the song by the 3rd generation of Morning Musume.  Kago Ai and Nono is not in this song because they have not joined the group yet. They are the 4th generation.

Another very cute video of the early MM .... Titled : Ai no Dance Site

And another favourite song here......

And this is another my favourite MV of MM with cute Aibon and Nono in it!

And here's a sad song about Mother by MM. Titled: Furusato (Hometown) I like the tune.

Okay here's another video of Kago Ai in the group TanPoPo... I love this MV! Brings back the memories of the teenage days when I just saw this cute video...

And finally... One of the many nice W's song!  Titled: Miss Love Tantei (detective).

Aren't they kawaii!

Here's a cute video of Kago Learning English

And here is a amazing feat by Ai chan and Tsuji san , a Guinness World Record, pls watch!

I really wish they had produced more W songs before Ai chan left the company.... They are really perfect as a pair together....

Ai chan ganbatte ne! Treasure your life and live it to the fullest!

Love from Melbourne, Part 2 - Random Stuff

Dearfairygodmother,

Here is the 2nd post as promised.

I found some of the pretty sky photos that I didn't manage to find while creating the last post, I really want to share them here:

This was early in the morning when I woke up to hot air balloons floating by... But my window was misty and iPhone's camera can't really zoom in...but it was a thrill to see them :) (the balloon is the tiny speck of dot on the right hand side of the pic near the building)

These photos were taken from my room windows when it was real gloomy and looked like it was going to rain

Found another rainbow pic in my drive.

Can you spot the airplane in the picture above and below? :)

There'a actually a black kite in the picture here; above the tree

Here's a pic taken on the way home from school in the bus. Beautiful sunset colours!

Sorry if you are bored of all these photos, but I really love clouds and skies.... And now the worst thing that could have happened is that in our hostel we were forced to move down from Level 5 to Level 2.... "Downgrade" because they are converting the existing Level 4 and above to all hotel rooms instead of mix hostel-hotel rooms on those levels. Uber sad because we couldn't get suitable rooms with good views. Now the view outside of my window are trees and a tent just right below me with people smoking underneath that tent from time to time. I never pull up my blinds ever again now, no more good sky views for me.

Yep... so now on to ... More food pictures? In the previous post I organised the content under nice headings under 'Weather' and 'Food' but I realised most of my pictures are about these 2 only. -.-" So I shall not bother organising the content...

Here's a picture of what my SO brought over for me when he came to visit during the school break
1 packet of Nissin Instant Mug Noodles, 1 packet full of Furikake toppings for rice, 1 packet of kawaii Rilakkuma biscuit sticks, 2 precious packets of Bee Cheng Hiang Pork Floss! All sponsored by sweet friends Shin san and gf JH san.<3
SO bought instant Miso packets for me too.... Isn't in the picture.

Especially the pork floss, I believe Bee Cheng Hiang pork floss is not available in Melbourne. When I have nothing to eat, I sometimes would just eat the pork floss alone by itself 'cause it is so nice. XD

Okay and on April 29 2011 England Prince William and Kate Middleton got married, my friends and I gathered in my tiny room to watch the live telecast of the wedding in London. It was so exciting for me, because I have always been fascinated by the the idea of Prince and Princess like most little girls (I presume), and yeah my SO name happens to be William too (super common name). And I like Princess Diana, with influence from my mum who likes her. And I think the ring that Princess Diana chose for herself the sapphire stone with diamonds surrounding it is so cool.... and it's so sweet that Prince William proposed to Kate with his mother's ring! I swear I want a proposal ring that has a beautiful sapphire stone too and not the boring one round diamond that every other girls have ( no offence to anyone it's my personal opinion ;) , and I actually have the tiny round one from him for 21st birthday already thus yeah no need bigger one!)

Here's a picture of the ring from this person's blog.... Nice post on the ring! :)

So like 1 or 2 months later when I was at the Aussie Post office with my friend I saw this.... and bought it!

Isn't this so cool! Although I'm not a stamp collector (my Uncle used to be a real avid stamp collector I have seen his albums of stamps from all over the world when I went to Grandma's house last time) , I wanted to own this and keep pass down to my grandchildren! Haha... I wished I was studying in England at times like my colleague who is there for 2 years. I didn't ask my friend to help me buy the stamps from England though, I think the Aussie version is as good la. :D

I want to share this with you all.... Eggs with Smiley faces printed on them! How cute! Some observations of the eggs in OZ. They are placed in the refrigerated sections of the market (unlike Singapore?), and they a a lot of brands (home brands and others), and there is like different sizes of the eggs: Large (600g), XL(700g) , and there is free range and caged eggs choices. The very 1st egg that I cracked in OZ, had double yolks in it! My friends and I thought that all eggs in OZ were like that and went "Wow". But subsequently, we discovered that it wasn't the case after we bought a few more boxes. Well, I guess that's call 'Beginner's Luck' huh. Haha...

I love to post more stuff but it's 3am again now I better stop blogging already. It's so difficult to backdate and post everything that has happened for the past few months in 2 short posts. That is the problem with not doing work on a timely basis and compromises the quality of the work also. Especially for school work. :X If you are studying, study hard and don't be a procrastinator like me!

Love from Melbourne, Part 1

Hi dearfairygodmother,

I feel bad neglecting you since I decided to come Melbourne to study. Left the sunny island on Valentine's Day, spent time adjusting to the life here in Melbourne, developed horizontally during the 1st semester. Now it's the 2nd semsester and also the last semester of school here. Let's talk abit of my experience and view of Melbourne here.

Weather
Currently it's winter time here. I wished it snows in Aussie, but no, it does not snow except in the mountains. The lowest it can get at night I ever seen it about 1 or 0 degree celsius? But generally it ranges from like 4,5 to 18 degrees during the winter. It's okay if it's not windy. But if it is windy it's horrible. Winter ends when it is 1st september. The air is quite dry in Melbourne, not humid like Singapore. It's a good place for putting makeup on, as one will not sweat at all in this kind of weather! But it is so dry here one have to put on moisturiser definitely. But being the lazy me, sometimes I just let it be. And I will end up having white patches around my mouth. Ugly. Lipbalm is a essential here!
Not forgetting to mention this... I have saw the most numbers of rainbows in my entire life in my stay in Melbourne! I swear.... I have seen at least 5 rainbows here... And I took picture of 2... with one time seeing a full rainbow outside the shopping centre Melbourne Central... I have never freaking seen a rainbow in Singapore or Malaysia. Just my luck. But it seems to easy to catch a rainbow now and then over here.

This is seen near my hostel last sem :)

This is the one seen most recently and is a Full Rainbow! No wide lense so I couldn't take the full rainbow in one shot :/

Another thing I love about Melbourne is the clouds and the stars view. Maybe because most buildings in the suburbs are all low rise, there is no obstruction to the sky view. I love lying on my bed and gaze at the huge puffy clouds passing by my window. Stars are plentiful in the black dark sky at night :D And the most amazing starry sky I have ever seen was at the Philip island when we were at the beach shivering in cold waiting for the penguins to march back to their homes from the sea. I cannot describe in words the beauty and how amazing it is how grateful I was to have at least seen this kind of sky in my lifetime. And there was this huge patch which really look like the legendary "Milky Way".... I'm not sure if one is able to see the Milky way from Earth but it really fit the description. It was a silverish sea of I don't know... stars? Like silver dust in the sky. I was just so star struck.......

Enough of my gibberish.... Here are some photos I took from my room window.... :)

Grey clouds looming above my window..
Morning Sun :D

The colour of the horizon is v nice... Couldn't capture the true colour on my Iphone cam..

Food
Speaking of food, I can never blog finish the stuff I have tried and ate for the past 6 months. Like Singapore, there is a lot of good food around in Melbourne. Other than the obvious western food here, there is a lot of  Thai, Japanese, Korean and Vietnam food! Greek and Italian food can be found in Melbourne too. But standard of living is real high here in OZ. To eat outside normally one normal meal costs at least AUD$8++ . Their pizzas are good and cheap. Like this:

The chocolates in the supermarkets are often on sale, cheaper and more variety compared to Sg. And as me and my girlfriends our favourite past time is to go grocery shopping, I always buy a lot of chocolates and chips home. Red Deli chips and Doritos here have a lot of flavours to choose from. My favourite is Doritos Mexicana chips, and recently fell in love with Red chilli Grain wave whole grain chips. Now you know why I expand horizontally here!

In school, seriously there isn't much to my liking that I can eat. One funny thing is they have dim sims here. I'm sure most people would know what is Dim Sum (Hongkong Cantonese term for snacks). The Ang Mohs here they have Dim Sim! A picture of the Dim Sim is posted below in the fish and chips picture, see if you can spot it! Here is a definition of Dim Sim from Wikipedia :
dim sim is a Chinese-inspired meat dumpling-style snack food popular in Australia. The dish normally consists of a large ball of pork or other meat, cabbage and flavourings, encased in a wrapper similar to that of a traditional shumai dumpling. They are usually deep-fried or steamed, but can be barbecued. Dim sims differ from typical Chinese dumplings in that they are often much larger, have a thicker skin and are shaped more robustly.[1] They are primarily sold in Fish and chip shops, service stations, corner stores and Chinese or Asian takeaway outlets in Australia."

And they have potato cake here, which is basically potato in the form of a flattened round shape and fried. Fish and chips are real good in Aussie. This photo shows one of the nicest fish and chips I have ate before.. Ate this with my girlfriends... Big portion! Couldn't finish it...

Tada... Oily I know... But it's nice! A glimpse of me and my cropped hair in the mirror! Can you spot the Dim Sim? :D

They have french fries which taste real good. The fries from Red Rooster fast food restaurant have thick and good texture but too salty. Lord of the fries is common here too, but I find their fries average.. Speaking of fast food, in Aussie, Hungry Jack's is the same as Burger King. But why is it not called Burger King? I have always wondered. So now talking about food in this post, I wikipediaed it and this is what I found :

Australia is the only country in which Burger King does not operate under its own name. When the company set about establishing operations down under in 1971, it found that its business name was already trademarked by a takeaway food shop in Adelaide. "

Sou desu ne...

And except for Mac breakfast, I will never really want to eat MacDonald for lunch or dinner in Aussie because... their burger is so dry...The bread and the chicken meat... I think the people like to eat breast meat here.... and no chilli sauce or tomato sauce is given! And expensive too.

But one thing I like about Aussie is their Jap sushi roll! It comes in one big roll and they sell it for about $2.30 on average. Me and my girlfriends always visit a stall outside Melbourne central which sells them for $2 only. Sometimes in Melbourne central basement there is offer on the sushi rolls like 2 boxs (total 8) for $8 or $10 when they are closing shop. My favourites are tamago (egg) and california and tuna rolls! They all come with a cute fish plastic tube for the soy sauce. ^o^

Why Sg don't sell sushi rolls like that?! Shiok to eat like tt!

Chicken schnitzel and chicken parmegiana are also very common food in Melbourne. Both are chicken boneless meat coated with breadcrumbs (I think) and fried, The latter has tomato and cheese topping on it, and sometimes with minced beef on it.

Okay another recommendation is Pancake Parlour at Melbourne Central! I'm not a Pancake lover.. But if you happen to be one I think you should try this atas restaurant for their raved pancakes...

This was what I ordered.. Banana and walnut flavoured pancakes... And chocolate ice cream on top..

This is what my friend ate... The cheese kransky sausage was thick and juicy!

Another place I went before with friends is this Passionflower ice-cream parlour ... Atas place but interesting!

Not forgetting the fruits here, basically they support their own farmers, so a lot of fruits sold here are grown in OZ. Bananas is a fruit that I have only bought once here, because it is freaking expensive. It can be as ex as AUD$14 per kg. Recently it is about $9+ per kg. I have learn to eat more fruits living alone here, as compared to in Sg. Strawberries sold here are often big and sweet and not too expensive, I bought a small box for AUD$2.50 when it was on sale in the supermarket. Here's a picture of it!

BIG RIGHT! ^.^

I also like to buy yoghurt over here from the supermarkets like Coles or Woolworths... One special yoghurt I've eaten here is this :

Gippsland yoghurt!
It is a very thick and rich yoghurt with real fruit bits inside....... Nice! But unless got offer I won't buy it... Not very cheap... about $5+ AUD...

Drinks
Alcoholic drinks like wine and beer are cheap cheap cheap. They have their own beer here called Victoria Bitter. Just like Singapore got Tiger Beer. But I'm not really a alcoholic person so all beers to me are the same. But soft drinks can be very expensive. AUD$3.60 for a small bottle of Coke. Of course if you buy from the right places still get good and cheap deals. Melbourne is famous for coffee also, which is very sad for me because I don't know how to appreciate coffee. But I did learn to drink a bit of coffee here due to the need for caffine sometimes in school! So I drink Mocha which has chocolate added to the coffee.

  Mocha from school cafe

And they have Max Brenner and San Churros which are 2 similar concept cafe which sells chocolate drinks.. Max Brenner have this special looking cup for their hot chocolate drink... and I love their Tutti Frutti Waffle... I heard Singapore Esplanade has one Max Brenner outlet...

Forgot the name of the drink but it has chocolate biscuit balls in it! Yummy!

This is San Churro's special... Churros (the long stick looking like thingy which I think is supposed to be Spanish Donuts) to dip in the different molten chocolates ... :D One of the things that one can try when in Melbourne...

Another drink that I want to mention is the shakes from Boost! Their mixed fruit shakes are fabulous.. One thing to mention is that bubble tea is available in Melbourne but they are expensive compared to Sg of course! A cup is about $4,$5 AUD... so I rather pay for Boost Juice which is healthier and something that I have never drink before back in Sg. But I also have heard from my friend Boost has a outlet in Vivo city...

Okay enough of the food.... I will continue Part 2 soon!  あげぽよ! \^o^/

It's 3 am already! Oyasuminasai!
